ABOUT

My work, deeply influenced by my personal journey, has allowed me to discover the immense joy of a child exploring labyrinths, much like a prehistoric artist venturing into the darkness to hunt minotaurs.

I see it as a response that depicts my emotions and the relationship they maintain with the flows of a memory that is alternately real and imaginary.

Thus, I experiment with different materials and techniques across various thematic subjects to compose my paintings, drawings, and collages. It is a research guided by the surprising effect of the unforeseen. Chance, slightly controlled by various gestures: pigment dispersion, monotype printing, stencil, the insolent effects of wash, or the uprootedness of collages, lies at the heart of the process.

I consider composition as a staging, involving a preliminary work of assembling a maquette which is then reproduced on canvas or paper. The elements are juxtaposed and do not always blend into an organic and natural unity; rather, they resemble the pieces of a scattered puzzle brought together into a new organism, both beautiful and terrifying.

What interests me, therefore, is not the representation of the subject/object as such, but its interpretation as a support for gestures and forms that come from the depths of the self, from that abstract and unfamiliar space that rubs shoulders with spectres.

In my paintings, I approach the notion of the tragic through images that evoke, at first glance, landscape, portraiture, animals, or still life. It is a post-poetic world, carried by a simultaneous gaze toward the past and the future, where a silence suspended above cold ashes petrifies the image in an intense polychromy.

It is also a narrative that feeds on images found in personal archives, on the Internet, or even in the black and white of old books and abandoned postcards. It traverses unsaturated worlds, long since gone, which I save from the rubble by projecting upon them a blinding, fluorescent, and theatrical light. It also explores our contemporary world, where angels and ghosts, princes and shepherdesses brush against one another — the ones and the others, as terrifying as they are terrified, as mortal as they are immortal.

A PROPOS
